(PC) Oberfeldwebel Albert Kerscher, commander of 2nd company 511 Heavy Tank Battalion aided by a Panzer IV, two Hetzers, a Kingtiger and a Pak gun, successfully defended against concerted Soviet air and armoured attacks, his action buying valuable time for the evacuation of German wounded from Pilau and scoring his 100th victory in the process. |

Panzer IIF light tanks of the 11th Panzer Division, 'Ghost', 1st Panzergruppe, Army Group South, advance during the battle of Kiev. This was to be the largest encirclement in history and a crushing defeat for the Soviet Southwestern Front. |

The A34 "Black Prince", was a British experimental development of the Churchill infantry tank armed with a 17 pounder. Although 6 prototypes were built, the project was dropped in favour of the new Centurion medium tank. |

Clash of Steel, Prokhorovka, Kursk, 12th July 1943 by David Pentland (PC) The battle for Prokhorovka marked the high water mark of the German southern drive for Kursk. At the apex of the thrust were the 14 tiger tanks of the 13 Heavy Tank Company, 1st SS Panzer Division Liebstandarte, led by Michael Wittman. Their advance was eventually thwarted, however, by the epic charge of the Soviet 29th Guards Tank Corps, as part of 5th Guards Tank Armys furious counter attack against the SS Tank Corps. |
The Hunters by David Pentland. (PC) The Fezzan, Libya, North Africa, November, 1942. The Italian Reparto Celere 3 of the 'Raggruppamento Sahariano AS', was the first unit to be equipped with the unique Camionetta 42 'Sahariana'. The platoon was used for patrols and had its first clashes with the LRDG on 17 November, when it lost one Sahariana, and on 25 November, when it succeeded in destroying four out of the eight enemy vehicles it encountered. |
Last Stand at Calais by David Pentland. (PC) British Cruiser Mark IA CS (A9) tanks and Bren Carriers of A Squadron, 3RTR, 1st Armoured Division, line the road south of Calais, prior to being sent south to secure the bridges on the St. Omer canal. The British column of tanks failed to reach its objective, encountering the advance guard of 1st Panzer Division near the little village of Hames-Boucre, and after an inconclusive afternoon battle fell back towards Calais in the early evening. |
A Perfect Tank Attack by David Pentland. (PC) Singling, Alsace, 20th August 1944. Following the fall of Metz to Patton's 3rd Army, the Allied offensive continued to push deeper into the Saar region. The fight for the small hamlet of Singling was merely one of numerous actions, but in the words of General Fritz Bayerlin commander of the crack German Panzer Lehr Division who witnessed the battle by the US 4th Armoured Division, it was 'the perfect tank attack'. Commander of the task force bearing the brunt of the action Col. Creighton W. Abrams and his men demonstrated the tactical skill and flexibility which, in five months, had made it one of the most formidable forces on the battlefield. |
Operation Skorpion by David Pentland. (PC) Egypt, North Africa, 26th May 1941. Two Panzer IIIG's of Rommel's Afrika Korps advance towards Halfaya Pass during Operation Skorpion. Following the recent loss of the pass to the British in Operation Brevity, the Afrika Korps launched a counter attack to regain the vital position, and forced the British under Lt. Gen. Gott back to Sofafi and Buq Buq. |

British Universal Carriers of 2nd Battalion, Kensington (Princess-Louise) Regiment, 49th West Riding Infantry Division, "the Polar Bears", in action during Operation Market Garden. The 2nd Kensington were the machine gun battalion of the division at this time. |
Enemy Ahead by David Pentland. (PC) North Africa, 18th November 1941. Italian Autoblinda armoured cars of Gen. Gambara's XX Mobile Corps trade shots with forward reconnaissance elements of the British 22nd Armoured Brigade, during the initial hours of Operation Crusader. Their quick withdrawal to report their contact would give the Italian main force a timely warning of the unexpected attack. |
Lying in Wait by David Pentland. (PC) Rauray, Normandy, 1st July 1944. A 6pdr anti tank gun team of the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division, The Polar Bears, in action against the attacking tanks and infantry of 9th SS and 2nd SS Panzer Divisions. The 49th Division comprised of 1st Tyneside Scottish, 10th & 11th Durham Light Infantry, 4th Lincolnshire, 1/4th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, the Hallamshire Battalion, 6th & 7th Duke of Wellingtons, and 11th Royal Scots Fusiliers. |
Holding the Line by David Pentland. (PC) Vielsalm, Belgium, 22nd December 1944. Men of the 508th PIR, along with the rest of the 82nd Airborne Division were rushed to the Ardennes and deployed in an attempt to halt the onslaught of 6th SS Panzer Army, specifically Kampfgruppe Peiper. |
Cold Wind from the East by David Pentland (PC) Soviet Su100s of 7th Mechanised Corps, Hungary, February 1945. The Su-100 self-propelled anti-tank guns were a lethal vehicle to the German panzers, even the vaunted Tiger tanks were not immune to their D-10S 100mm gun. Its lack of a turret and machine gun though, necessitated good infantry support. |

Preparing for the Day, the Reichswald, February 1945 by David Pentland (PC) Sturmtigers of Sturmmorser Company 1002, commanded by Lieutenant Zippel, take on ammunition in preparation for the battle to come. These fearsome monsters 38cm rocket projectors could penetrate up to 2.5m of reinforced concrete. Luckily for the Allies only 18 were completed by the wars end. |

(PC) After breaking through the German defences on Utah Beach, and neutralising the enemy strongpoint at La Madeleine, forward recon elements of the 8th US Infantry, 4th US Division, enter the town of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, Normandy, in order to effect a link up between themselves and the paratroopers of the 101st Screaming Eagles. |
