![]() ![]() Stewart F S Goad (deceased) *Signature Value : £90 | Born on 22nd January 1898, he was educated in Plymouth where, in 1915, he enlisted in the Mechanical Transport Corps, giving a false age. He served in France with the MTC and in 1917 transferred to the Royal Flying Corps undertaking the hazardous role of a balloon observer. It is believed that twice he had to resort to the use of a parachute when his balloon was attacked by enemy aircraft and, on the second occasion, he was injured during the descent. In the late 1990s he was presented with the French Legion d'Honneur. Our sources suggest he lived until at least 1998 which would have then made him 100 years old. We have no further information. |
