![]() ![]() Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Le Cheminant GBE KCB DFC and Bar (deceased) *Signature Value : £40 | Commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1939, he worked his way up the ranks steadily during World War Two, including a command of No.223 flying the Baltimore aircraft in the Tunisian desert in 1943. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, he stayed with the Air Force post war, earning a Bar to his DFC in Korea in 1951. There followed numerous senior positions culminating in Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe in 1979, the year in which he retired. A year later he took up the position of Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey - the only native of the island to have held the position - serving until 1985. He died on 8th April 2018. |
